Industrialization in Tsarist Russia

Before Russia even turned into what is now the Soviet Empire, Russia had been ruled by an ancient autocratic system that was then ruled by the Tsar. However, by the time Alexander III was crowned Tsar, Russia's power had been already substantially reduced. It was evident then that only industrialization could save the empire from stagnation.
