TimeMaps Interview

By Interviewer at 07/14/10 14:46

Name of your website?

TimeMaps

Your name?

Jonny Britton

Your Location (city, etc)

Durham

Please give us a short summary of your website?

It provides a visual guide through history. By combining maps and a timeline it creates a way of navigating to a place and time to see what was happening. The 'timemap' is supported by an encyclopedia full of text, images and slide shows to give a good idea of what was happening at the time.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

The opportunity to engage people in what I think is the most important subject in the world - history. Without history you do not know who you are and where you came from. It is the context of your life.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

2005, www.worldhistory.timemaps.com - it was a rubbish version of the new site.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

We had maps, we merged them with timelines and came up with TimeMaps. We thought it had a catchy ring to it.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

We navigate through world history visually. This allows users to see the context of the events or circumstances of what was happening.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To get lots of people using it!

What has been your biggest challenge?

Writing the entire chronological history of every place in the world.

What is your website address?

TimeMaps
