Origin on Chiriqui's Name

The history and origins how the Chiriqui province got their name has many version.

One of the most reliable is that it was derived from Guayme word - "cheriqui", defined by the natives to be the highest point of the summit of the cordillera or a valley of the moon and land of the two large waters.

While some believes that it was a name of a famous native for his strength. There are also version telling that it has connection with Cherokees from North Carolina.
